WILLIAM'S

CHARLESTON

PRIORITIES

Standing up to put the needs of local citizens first.

SMART GROWTH         SAFE COMMUNITIES         SOUND GOVERNANCE

As your next Mayor, William will be committed to putting the needs of our local citizens first. He is not afraid to make tough decisions, to be a proactive rather than reactive leader, and take responsibility when things don’t go according to plan.

He lives by the mantra: “If there is a will, there is a way,” and it is this dogged determination and commitment to new ideas that has proven successful for him both in business and politics. What we do as a city over the next 5 to 10 years will define our trajectory over the next century, and William is the only candidate with the experience and ability to get the job done.

SMART Growth

Standing up to Bad Development

With 25 years of experience in real estate, William knows the difference between good and bad development. By standing up to developers that threaten our city’s character and enacting new zoning ordinances, William will ensure all development fits within the quality and scale of the city we love.

Leading the Way in Regional Planning

William will bring Charleston to the table of regional infrastructure planning by working with the county, state, federal delegations and private sector to get funding. We desperately need a leader who knows how to structure creative funding solutions, and William's track-record makes him the only candidate with the proven ability to implement big ideas in the public and private sphere.

SAFE Communities

Addressing Rising Crime

Seven years ago, Charleston had a crime rate that was well below the national average. Now, we are well above it, and Charleston is on a dangerous trajectory. We deserve to feel safe in our homes and it’s a basic function of government to deliver that promise.

William will compensate law enforcement well and never encourage them to police one area differently for fear of bad press.

Reinvesting in Recreation Centers & Youth Programming

Funding for our city's recreation leagues, community centers and playgrounds has largely been gutted. We must reinvest in our youth sports, programming and community infrastructure. It is William's priority to reinvigorate our city rec centers through the use of public-private partnerships to bring much needed funding and organization.

SOUND Governance

Getting Our City Back on Track

Our city is over-budget and understaffed. The municipal organizational chart is 45 years old and little has been done to modernize daily municipal functions.

William will balance the budget without raising taxes, and he will ensure positions are filled and solutions are found.
He will
not over delegate to a subcommittee, and he will implement practical solutions to solving issues like parking, local ordinance enforcement, keeping our streets clean, renewing business licenses, and improving our city walkways.

Affordable Housing & Flooding

The current administration has operated with the mindset that our issues stop at the city limits. As a result, there has been little to no collaboration with the county or region on issues like flooding and affordable housing. There are many policies being talked about and too many commissions that have been set up. While well intended, they have proven ineffective, using dated systems and dated ideas.

William intends to take a regional approach to addressing both flooding and affordable housing. His approach will leverage funding and allows for the implementation of practical solutions that do not compete with or duplicate existing efforts.
